Weather Stations Answer The Question ‘What’s It Like Outside?’
Although my Mom was dependent upon me to take her on outings, she loved to check out her electronic weather station every day so that she was in the know, at least weather wise.
I was always greeted to my morning coffee with Mom’s version of the forecast gained from her electronic weather station.
When it comes to selecting a weather station for the elderly, I strongly suggest that a simpler readout is better. I currently own two weather stations, one of which even I can’t figure out – that’s John’s to interpret.
My favorite weather station is the AcuRite that you see there to the left. I like the crisp, clear readout on this particular weather station. I was extremely pleased to see that it updated automatically for daylight savings time – in fact, it was the only clock we owned that was right on time for about 3 days after the time changed….
The AcuRite Weather Station comes in the color version you see above and also a black and white version if you prefer.
When selecting weather stations, make sure you understand what other components are needed to make the weather station work. For example, the Sharper Image weather station needs a computer to connect to the internet. Not every elderly loved one may have a computer so, beware.
Most of the newer weather stations have sensors that you’ll need to put somewhere outside and sync up to the base unit – it doesn’t take much time but it can be a little tricky for initial set-up.
Color Weather Stations
I’m sort of waiting for one of my two weather stations to break so I can upgrade to one of these spiffy color weather stations.
