Since Mom spent a lot of time in her easy chair (surrounded by Matee, the pug, most of the time), the TV was always on. Most of the time, the TV was tuned to what Mom called ‘Who’s the Baby Daddy’ shows – you know, Judge Judy, Divorce Court, etc. Listening to the inane chatter drove me crazy. Until….
I finally figured out a way to keep Mom and her caregiver (me!) happier with the constant TV chatter. I bought some TV shows of yesteryear! I not only found these TV shows to be interesting, but, they also were the sparks to some pretty interesting conversations between Mom and me. I’d frequently hit the ‘pause’ button to listen to Mom tell me about the first time she ever saw a TV and how enamored she was by the ‘man in the box.’
As a bonus for you (and my hope to save your sanity), I’ve added in a link to TV ears – these things were magical! Mom would put on the headset, I’d mute the TV, and there would be instant quiet in the house yet she could hear the TV loud and clear. The things are a must if your elderly loved one lives with you. Actually, now that Mom is gone, I still use the TV ears myself as they’ve got very nice stereo sound quality.
