As Mom aged, it became more difficult to get her into the shower. Even though she mostly sat there on her shower chair while I did the work, the whole experience was just exhausting to her. A shower was always followed by a 2 hour nap….
That’s how I wandered upon hair wash basins on Amazon.com. We used the first one in the link below (the Duro-Med Wash and Rinse Tray) with limited success. Mom always seems to angle the tray too much and water would run down her back. A shower cape fixed some of this issue, but not all. I think the inflatable hair wash basins would probably have been a better idea for our situation.
Whichever portable hair washing system you choose, I do suggest that you get one of the plastic or rubber capes like the kind worn in beauty salons. That would at least protect your elderly loved one from getting soaked during the beauty treatment (well, it’s a theory). You might also consider putting down a bath mat with rubber backing just in case the floor gets wet.
Below are some portable hair wash basins and other items you might like – such as special shampoo for gray, blond, or white hair. This stuff made Mom’s white hair just gleam!
Note: if you simply cannot get your elderly friend to let you wash his or her hair with one of these basins below, you might want to try the shampoo caps you’ll find in this article. All you do is add a bit of water to the shampoo cap, put it on the head, and smoosh it around for a bit. Hair comes out clean. These are also great for campers or beach trips.
