Mom and I rarely went out at night and never went out on rainy nights so we didn’t need one of these cool lighted safety umbrellas, but, I sort of wish we had.
I do have some friends though whose parents need to walk their dog, in all kinds of weather so a lighted umbrella makes sense – “see and be seen is my motto” for them. After all, one fall on a rainy walkway could become a life or death situation for an elderly loved one.
A lighted umbrella will also make your elderly loved one more visible, therefore, hopefully, offering some protection against criminals who may be lurking down that dark alley.
Some lighted umbrellas use AAA batteries and some use the small, round watch batteries so check before you buy one. Most reviews say that a small screwdriver (like that used to fix eyeglasses) is needed to install the batteries.
Also, I’d look for one that has a flashlight built into the bottom of the lighted umbrella handle so that the path can be easily illuminated.
