Step Stools With Handles Give Added Assurance To The Safety Of An Elderly Loved One
If your elderly loved one is anything like my father, nothing was going to keep him off a step stool – that’s how I found step stools with handles. In particular, I found the Duro-Med Step Stool you’ll see featured in this article.
If you’ve looked at the traditional non-handled step stools, this one is a step up (sorry, had to….).
The rounded handle on it makes it much safer for our elderly loved ones as they have a place to hang onto. The step stool’s handle also steadies the user during the step up or step down from the stool.
This handled step stool is fairly light-weight at just 5 pounds, which makes it easy to move around the house for wherever you need to use it. The metal construction is strong and feels sturdy.
So, where could you use a step stool with a handle?
- In the kitchen to reach a high or top cabinet shelf
- In the bathroom to reach linen closet shelves or even to step into a warm bath. Note: the best option for getting into and out of a tub can be found in my article Bathroom Grab Bars.
- In the bedroom for help getting into a bed that sits higher than normal.
- Getting into and out of the car. My mom had shrunk so much from her younger height that she had a hard time getting into my SUV. I kept my step stool with a handle right on the front porch and just brought it over to the car for her.
Safety Features Of the Duro-Med Step Stool With Handle
The Duro-Med step stool platform is almost 10-inches by 14-inches – wide enough for your senior citizen friend to safely stand with both feet on the rubber, non-slip textured base. There is no danger of slipping when stepping up or stepping down off the stool.
The Duro-Med step stool with handle also has rubber tips on the feet which prevent it from sliding across the floor during use.
It’s frustrating not to be able to reach something from a higher shelf (or waiting for a tall family member or friend to stop by), or needing some extra help into stepping into a SUV or truck. The Duro-Med Stool is a handy and sturdy solution.
